Big Pop Day!

Great White Shark

Great White Shark

I’ll be the first to admit that the picture with this post is a bit on the odd side and maybe disturbing too. It certainly doesn’t have anything to do with the rest of this post, but it is striking and grabs your attention. So, on that last point maybe it is all about this post, looking for attention, but just not in a good way.

Today was a big pop day in two ways. Last Christmas, I bought myself a 2015 bubble wrap calendar and as the year wends on and on, it has generated a fair bit of notoriety for itself. Today was a special day in bubble-land. Mondays are always the best days of the week, because with the weekend, there are usually three bubbles to pop. This Monday was extra special though. February which only has 28 days, has three ‘bonus’ bubbles to pop at the end of its column, giving me a total of six to pop. Paul, my cube farming neighbor had made noises about looking forward to this day and when he arrived, asked if I had popped the bubbles yet. He was mightily pleased to learn that I had not. I think that next time I’ll let him do it. There will be another six-day pop-off coming soon.

Changing the conversation from popping for a bit, Saint Louis got its first significant snowfall for the season over the weekend. We got 6” of the ~8” that have fallen all winter. My only real outing in this novel wintery wonderland was to shovel the walk, but at least I got out there and out of my PJs, unlike Venus, who eventually lured Mars into retrograding back into his PJs, but I was proud of my achievement, being one of the first to dig out. I saw a guy with a snow blower up the block, but I dismissed him as a contractor. After I was back inside though, the sound of that snow blower kept coming closer and closer. He eventually did the whole block. I’m guessing now that he was not a contractor, but a neighbor with a brand new, never been used snow blower that he had just been itching to use all winter. My only regret is that if I had just waited a bit, I could have stayed in my PJs all day too.

Now back to popping or rather pop. Three years ago, Carly Rae Jepson burst upon the pop-music scene with her summer smash earwig, Call Me Maybe. She’s back with another, I Really Love You. She says “really” 67 times in the song, so it really must be true. I heard this ode to bubblegum this morning on the way to work and it really, really helped me get through this Monday, really.

I really really really really really really like you
And I want you, do you want me, do you want me, too?

  1. Yup, the shark picture was disturbing until I used my honed skills as an expert shark behaviorist and realized the poor guy just wants his teeth brushed!

But you have given me a conundrum: to listen or not to listen to a potentially brain-draining pop song.
