Last Tuesday we had our second retirement planning seminar. At least it wasn’t raining like it was the week before. Last week’s seminar dealt with the financials of retirement. How are you going to pay for retirement? This seminar was more concerned with end of life planning. As was pointed out this week, I should look ahead and plan accordingly, but I’m still trying to get caught up with last week’s coursework. I never was a very good student. We bit on their sales pitch and agreed to a free individualized planning meeting. We do have access to other advisors. Spacely Sprockets offers two that we are independently tapping and we could also tap into our Merrill services, but I think that reaching out to these guys is a good first jumping off point, as long as it is free. They have been selling fear of the future to us for two weeks now, if after we open up to them and they still want to sell us, then I guess that they think we are as financially ready for retirement as anyone is. Anyway, another voice is welcomed now.
