Today was a particularly dreary day. It rained all day and now it is time for the sun to set and it has not been seen all day. Today’s picture is another prime example from the series of endless summer sunsets that occurs over Lake Superior at the cabin. With the sun poking out, top and bottom, the clouds look to me like the rings of Saturn.
We got out last night and went to the theater. We had dinner at Cyrano’s, followed by Opus at the Rep. Opus is a play by Michael Hollinger. It is the story of a fictional classical string quartet. Onstage they are pitch perfect but behind the scenes they’re coming unstrung. The four artists battle the blood, sweat and tears that go into making extraordinary music seem effortless. With only four days to rehearse for their most important performance ever, a world-class string quartet takes a chance by hiring a gifted but inexperienced young woman to replace the groups most difficult member. This play is a passionate look at the delicate and complex relationships between artists’ lives and their art. The weather was icy last night, which probably explains the poor house, but we enjoyed the show and will be back in the theater again, in a few short weeks.
I got out in the morning, to see Dr. ‘Mad’ Bill again and then to shop at the grocery store, but other than that I whiled the day away playing video games. I downloaded the latest expansion pack to Civilization V, “Brave New World” and played that all day. Not a particularly productive day, but sometimes you need some down time and today’s weather certainly made that seem attractive.
