California Quail Couple

California Quail Couple

I am now back in the Lou, while Anne is now in Ann Arbor. Yesterday, we left Monterey together. Even flying with each other as far as Salt Lake City, before we went our separate ways. I do not know when I will be able to join her there. I am stuck here, still wait on getting the car fixed. Neither the auto dealer nor my insurance company seem to be able to be able to communicate with each other and because what business that still needs to be conducted is between the two of them, everything is at a standstill. I also have a couple of other chores that are holding me in town, but they should be completed this week. Leaving getting the car repaired as the big outstanding item. In other news, I got a text from the pharmacy stating that I am eligible for yet another Covid vaccine booster and since it is still around and people, I know who are already vaccinated are still coming down with it, I figured better safe than sorry. Dave’s friend and best man Kennard made the news today for his part in winning a $3.25M lawsuit against Maplewood. As it turns out this neighboring town like so many others around the Lou, were running their own debtor’s prison, to fund the city government, basically what Ferguson had been doing. Good on him! Kennard, with his gentle and softspoken demeanor is making quite the name for himself as a civic activist here. Good thing, because there is no going back to Bed Bath & Beyond now.

Fruit of the Rain

Lupin, Poppies and Green Grass

When we first arrived in California, it was warmer then forecasted. Speaking with Californians here this spate of nice weather was a welcomed change from what they had been getting. Their unusually wet winter seems to have taken a toll. The transition from years of drought, with its accompanying fire seasons to the current wet has not been easy. Speaking with them, I was reminded of the year after the polar vortex. The people up in the Soo were still shellshock from that weather. It was sunny an bright when we arrived in California and it stayed sunny for a few days, before the fog began to move in, but even the fog was only a sometime thing, usually in the morning. Now, the fog has given way to rain. Rain in May? It is almost unheard of around here, but into each life a little rain must fall. Tomorrow, we fly ahead of this storm. Flying east we will race ahead of this weather and then wait for it to catch up with us again.

Dad’s New Quilt

Dad’s New Quilt

Here is the new quilt that Anne made for my dad. Dad really like it. It is modeled on the view from his house that overlooks Monterey Bay. This year the grass is really green in the valley below us. She did a great job with it, but what is even more fantastic, is that she made it in just under a month. Record time! It was finished in time to come with us to Monterey. Anne claims that she made a few mistakes in making it, but I am sure that that is just another example of humble brag. Much like Persian rug makers intentionally put a mistake it their carpets so that Allah will not be offended with their craft.
