Wyatt’s Twilight Forest Nursery

Yesterday, Maren and Anne hung Wyatt’s new quilt together. While pregnant with him, Maren chose the theme Twilight Forest for his nursery. She applied the pictured birch tree decals on the bedroom wall. Independently, Anne quilted the also pictured birch tree wall quilt. Serendipity. They go very well together.

Also yesterday, Anne and I flew home. It was a full three-hour nonstop flight. Before takeoff, we each independently had a cup of New England clam chowder from Legal Seafood. First me and then Anne, who forgot to pay. The server later tracked her down, while she was sitting at the gate and charged her for her soup, but not for skipping out without paying. Making not too many legal difficulties.

Mission Accomplished

Bouncing Googly-eyed Baby

We got to meet our new grandson, Wyatt. If only you could see him, as I have seen him, but his mother Maren has strict rules about posting his picture on the internet. I really do not mind these restrictions, I mean I understand them. There are lots of pedos and trolls in this world. Besides, every photographer needs a challenge. We are leaving today, flying home from Boston. The good Lord, TSA and the ATC union willing. At least the weather will be fair, if not our flight.

After a week of witnessing parental currency exchanges, where spouse versus spouse must negotiate the going rate of a diaper change—one of Declan’s poopy diapers equals three of Wyatt’s, no four, five—it will be good to get back to old folks-land, where one can feel a less guilty about a good night’s sleep. Truth be told, sleeping in the basement worked out quite well for us. I eventually took to showering down there too, even though the only shampoo available was Puck’s. I felt like such a good boy after each shower.

I am calling this trip mission accomplished, because not only did we get to meet our newest grandson, but we also got to spend a lot of good times with Declan. Oh, and then there is Maren and David too. We had such a good time that we are already on returning for the holidays. The logistics for that trip are still to be worked out. If we drive this time, we can stop in NYC and see Dan and Britt.

Boo at Stone Zoo

Stone Zoo Gibbon

All the little ghosts and goblins were out in force on Sunday. It was beautiful day, the pick weather day of this trip. This nice weather brought all of the zoo’s animals out in force. There were lots of interesting costumes about, including a couple of brothers who were dressed as porcupines, with painted straws for quills. Simple yet unique. One dad sported the bushiest old man eyebrows that I have ever seen. Another child wore the cutest knitted pumpkin cap. It had ribs radiating from the top around the stub of a stem. Three other families from Declan’s daycare joined us for this playdate. Providing us three playmates, along with their six parents. When the zoo got too crowded, we all bailed to across the street, where a playground awaited us. It was a fantastic outing.
