White-tailed Kite

We saw this bird, while visiting Point Lobos. At first, we thought it was a tern, because it was hovering like terns hover over the water at the cabin. Except that this one was hovering inland over a meadow. We eventually decided that it was a White-tailed kite. A new bird for us. This is a raptor that feeds off of small mammals like mice. We watched it for a couple of minutes as it would hover stationary over one part of the field, before moving on to another part. After, it had surveyed the meadow without success, it flew off elsewhere.
