Colorado River at Navajo Bridge

It has been heating up hotter and hotter, with each passing day this holiday weekend. Saturday was the pick day and we did the most that day. We were outside almost all of Saturday. Yesterday, wasn’t too bad, we lunched outdoors at the Greek Festival with Joanie. Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Today, we biked early in Forest Park to beat the heat and then hunkered down for the rest of the day. There was a large number of other cyclists and runners out, doing the same thing, but strangely there wasn’t all that much auto traffic for so many people being in the park. A cold front is passing through town as I write. On the radar, it is a near perfectly straight line of thunderstorms, except for the break in the middle of the line over Saint Louis. A perfect example of the heat island effect.

This photo was taken where we saw the condors in Arizona. The river is like a green ribbon cutting through an orange land. Labor Day is the defacto end of summer, a date that separates summer vacation from the more serious business that fall brings. The pools close for the season today and any schools that haven’t started classes, will after today. Labor Day is like the Rubicon, once you cross it, there is no going back. Unless of course you happen to be the retired guy, then Labor Day represents new opportunities and I can hardly wait to see what is waiting for me around the next bend.
