One thing that I would like to do when I retire is to travel abroad. However, this year the Republican Party has become such an embarrassment that I am leery of leaving our country, for fear of what the rest of the world must be thinking about us. There is the whole Donald Trump thing. If abroad, I was ever asked to explain the Donald, I would likely just turn tail and run home, but he is only more ridiculous than the rest of them, by degree. Last night, Ted Cruz stuck his foot in it again, with this statement, “America is always best when she is lying down with her back on the mat.” How much more tone deaf can you possibly be? It’s just embarrassing. Thank God, we still have Hillary and the Democrats!
I don’t know where you plan to travel, but believe me, European elections feature candidates every bit as loopy and extreme as Trump and Cruz, and if you’re going to a South American or African nation it’s best not to talk politics at all.
How many of there parties are in a position to get elected?
I’ve read some mind-numbing stuff from Nigel Farage (UKIP) and Marine Le Pen of France’s National Front. Both of them are as electable as, say, Ted Cruz, and they have followers similar to Trump’s base. (There’s also one in Denmark whose name I forget.)
