This summer, we were gifted with the two fine examples of bicycling art that are pictured in this post. The above New Yorker cartoon was a present from Jay and Carl. It is a framed print. Below is a wooden shingle that was given to us last weekend by Bob and Noreen. We are pleased with both gifts and both of them will find prominent places on our home’s walls. While “Follow Your Heart” evokes the look and feel of a dawn launch, with the bicycle portrayed in silhouette and the background landscape in black and blue, “Faster! Middle age is gaining on you!” neatly skewers the dichotomy between Anne’s and my riding styles. It is accurate to a fault. I’m all about going faster on the bike, while Anne is more into enjoying the ride. Just a couple of nitpicks though, Anne also always wears a helmet and she is the one who rides a road bike, while I’m the one on a hybrid bicycle. Maybe Harry Bliss would be willing to correct these minor mistakes? Thanks again all, for the very lovely gifts. Sixty maybe the new forty, but I’m less concern about middle age than I am about old. 😉
