What We Did Last Summer

Today, is the last day of summer and it is high time for a recap. This summer has been busier than most. Lots of travel, with Anne and I splitting our time between Monterey and Lake Superior. First up was Monterey, where we sat shiva for my father’s passing. He almost made it to 97, just one week shy. His passing ushered in the process of handling his estate. This is a process that is ongoing. We are still trying to sell the house. We remained in California long enough to get the house on the market. Once that was accomplished, it was time to leave. Hanging around would have left us in the way and only inhibited the realtors.

Heading east, we briefly stopped at home in Saint Louis. While we were out west a tornado visited town, but we were fortunate. After only a couple of days, we continued east to Michigan. First Ann Arbor, where we hooked up with Anne’s family and then north to the cabin. At the cabin, we hosted Dan, Britt and their friends, which was exciting. Also, up north many of Anne’s other relatives visited. This was a lot of fun and after they all departed, I was wondering what we would do next. There was no need to worry, because the power company showed up one morning to update the electrical meter and found evidence of charring in the circuit, that was caused by running a 100A on a 60A line.

This discovery launched an Odessey that we had to call the cavalry in to help out. Jane arrived in the nick of time. There was also the tribulation of the bathroom’s vanity light, but we managed that electrical problem by ourselves. Soon, it was time for us to head home, where we had been gone from for almost six months. Once home, we had unpacked the seven suitcases that we had brought from Monterey and generally picked up our lives in Saint Louis again.

Now that we are settle again, it is time to look to the future. This summer, we lost my father, but we also gained a new grandson, Wyatt. Next month, we will head to Boston and get to hold him. The house is still not sold yet, but we are also making future plans for that too. Life goes on—Falling into fall.
