A month to the day that the Cloverland Electric tech came calling to replace the cabin’s electric meter, the electrical problem that he discovered was resolved. Rural electrification occurred at the cabin so long ago that no one remembers when it happened. In all of that time, we were running a 60A service. Forty years ago, new wiring was installed inside the cabin. Wired for 100A, but the exterior wiring was never updated. Over time, our power usage grew and that 40A delta between the service and the breaker box became a problem. Cloverland discovered charring inside the meter’s box and along the conduit to the breaker box. This was a violation of the prime directive: Don’t burn down the cabin!
I tried to hire an electrician, but Anne succeeded, and Jane closed the deal. Yesterday, the moon, stars, planets, power company, Roy Electric, electrical inspector and weather all aligned. Under Jane’s vigilant supervision the job was done. Looking at the pics that Jane sent, it looks like Roy sistered the facia and attached the powerline there. It also appears that the rule about not attaching the powerline within 3′ of a window was more of a guideline. As an aside, Bill berthed the fleet inside the garage. Bedding down all the boats for winter.
