It Never Rains in California

Fog Rolling in at Sunset

But girl, don’t they warn you? It pours, man, it pours, and drizzles and more. It rained yesterday morning. Then drizzled in the afternoon. Anne and I were out or our walk then and I could see the rain approaching. It was working its way east up Carmel Valley. I turned around, before we reached our normal terminus, but Anne pressed on. Just before I reached the shelter of the house, the rain caught me. Really more of a drizzle than rain, it was enough to dampen my clothes and give me that clammy feeling. I then hopped into the car and drove down the road to rescue Anne. Who really did not need rescuing but was grateful for the effort. This morning, I was awakened by a predawn rain. I could hear it striking the bedroom windows, but like yesterday’s rains, everything will dry off by the afternoon. All told, I doubt that we got much rain, certainly less than an inch. Still, it should slow the inexorable browning of the hills and with that the advent of fire season. Rain this late in the year is a bit unusual, most of the rain comes during the winter. Any rain at this time is a blessing.
