Houston, We Have a Problem

Houston, We Have a Problem, Peter Kuper, 2016

The crux of the joke in this cartoon is that New Yorkers pronounce this subway station’s name more like “How-sten” than Houston. I think that it is funny. My gripe Dejour also involves NASA. I was web surfing earlier today and the blackhole that I was going down involved NASA photos. Originally, I was looking for a photo of that asteroid that might hit the earth in a couple of years. On the NASA website were all sorts of links to different photo galleries. I checked out one of them that was labeled “best of 2024.” Imagine my disappointment that instead of finding gorgeous Hubble pictures or the like, almost the entire gallery was devoted to people gathering. Usually in evening wear. And most of these pics were about SpaceX. Correct me if I am wrong, but SpaceX is not the alpha and omega of NASA. Not yet. The only thing that I could recall about SpaceX from last year is that one of their big rockets blew up on launch. In the past the beautiful space photos that I was originally looking for were plentiful and easy to find. Is this another manifestation of Elon Musk? Or am I just being paranoid? Probably Musk.
