It is interesting to see the first effects of the new administration in everyday life. Every time I now visit the dairy aisle; I note the nearly empty egg shelves there and management’s sign telling customers that there is a limit of three cartons per visit. Yesterday, Karoline Leavitt, the new press secretary, took exception during her inaugural press conference to a question about this point. She turned it into an opportunity to take another tired old dig at Joe Biden’s age. The truth is we are in the midst of a bird flu epidemic that is causing this shortage. An epidemic that experts say is only going to get worse. Shades of Covid past, the advent of this new disease does not bode well. All the more so with the recent blackout on government news on all things medical. No new cases, if you don’t report them.
Add to this situation yesterday’s surprise shutdown of Medicaid that sent us all into a panic. Never mind that it was only a misunderstanding or, so we were told. Never mind that for months they have been telegraphing this exact same event. 77,284,118 people voted for Trump, and he just took away Medicaid from 79,308,002 Americans. Was Medicaid only the first to go? How much longer until Medicare and Social Security are also on the chopping block? They are where the really big bucks are, the same big bucks that are now needed to pay for Trumps big tax cuts for all his rich buds.
