The Blue Tree

Help! My wife is trying to do me in. Well, at least she is dreaming about it. The other night she had a dream in which I was electrocuted, twice. Competing for the Darwin awards, I was trying to get a picture of a sparking powerline on the ground and got too close. A trip to the ER was required, where I got fixed up again and was good as new or at least good enough to go out and be electrocuted once again by that same downed line. By that time the ambulance had become our main mode of transportation, our new family car, because our car had been towed, twice. Fortunately for me, she woke up about then, sparing me from a third and possibly fatal electrocution. I still feel tingly all over.

Pictured above, on the left, is Anne’s latest fiber creation. On the right is the inspiration for this work. It is a huge Sweet Gum tree that has been all decked out with blue lights for the botanical garden’s annual holiday lights show. Her needlepoint will be paired with another needlepoint creation that Dan made way back in middle school. The two works will be joined into a pillow.

  1. Technically, my blue tree is not needlepoint, but quilted thread painting. Dan’s work is a pieced nine-patch with borders. I haven’t decided on how I want to quilt his piece. –Anne, the crafty dreamer. (or is it dreamy crafter?)
