The 1960 Di Dia 150 was a luxury, custom-designed iconic, handmade car also known as the Dream Car forever associated with its second owner, singer Bobby Darin. This car was designed by Andy Di Dia, a clothing designer, who Bobby Darin had met while on tour in Detroit in 1957. Darin told Di Dia that he would purchase the car if he ever hit it big. For seven years, the DiDia 150 was hand-built by four workers, at a cost of $100K, but sold to Darin in 1961 at a cost of over $150K ($1.5M today). At the time the car was listed as the most expensive custom-made car in the world. Most famously, Darin drove his wife, Sandra Dee, in the car to the 34th Academy Awards in 1961. When Bobby drove the car to the Academy Awards, Di Dia followed behind him in another car. The Di Dia 150 had two cooling fans and a switch that you had to manually turn on. Bobby didn’t realize this, so the car overheated. It was reported that the car caught fire but it didn’t. Darin later gave the car to the National Museum f Transportation.

I’m back at the Toyota dealership today. Still trying to get the squeak out of the steering wheel. This is my third visit. This time they are not going to mess around, because they are going to replace the entirety of the steering wheel’s guts. I am so glad that all of this work is covered under the warranty. Rather than Uber home and then back to the dealer’s, I decided to just sit here and wait it out. I brought the laptop along and I am writing today’s blog post. The TV is on in the waiting room and it is spewing nonstop political ads. I will be so glad when this election is over. I hope that the Democrats win.
