Female Ruby-throated Hummingbird at Our Feeder

Carl and Jay arrived today. In tow, they also brought along Harry. Carl upon arrival, announced that they had brought a 95-year-old man, to a 98-year-old cabin, planted on land that was purchase a hundred years ago. In this centennial year of the land’s purchase from a lumber company, having the closest living family relative to that purchase up here is special. Upon his arrival, Harry’s fans went wild. I fixed dinner, which was surmounted with Anne’s rendition of Maren’s strawberry cake. It was almost as good as my Maren used to make. Anyway, it was a big success. The photo with this post is of a hummingbird enjoying our sugar water. Hummingbirds are very territorial and this one routinely takes turns sipping at the feeder and then chasing off its rival. If you look closely, you can see the tip of the hummingbird’s tongue sticking out.
