Custer State Park

Magpie in a Juniper Tree

We left Rapid City. Anne really enjoyed her quilt show. Photos to follow. We’re camping in Custer State Park, at +5K feet altitude, in the Black Hills. We drove the wildlife loop, but mainly saw the closest buffalo away from the park’s southern grassy hills. We saw four males almost on the side of the road, lying around after being ostracized by the calving females. We saw and photographed many other large mammals too. This will be our base of operations for the next four days, as we plan to explore as many national parks and monuments that don’t have camping facilities. We have an excellent campsite with only quiet neighbors, dark skies and almost no bugs. Nirvana!
