A Christmas Wish

You’re a good man.
I don’t know about that.
Of course you don’t. That’s part of your charm.

In this post-communist, but still proletariat society, it is hard to find validation. It’s easy to get your ticket punched if you are the breadwinner, but what if you have won enough bread, enough for a lifetime, What then? Do you become a titan of industry, adopt an orange toupee and then run for president? I believe that there is more to life than just running up the score. Family, friends and country all come to my mind first.

What defines worth? Not of the net type, but more of the self sort. Fortunately for me, I need look only to my wife for the perfect role model. She is still a worker, a teacher to boot. Her current gig is as a math interventionist. She helps students that are struggling with their numbers, but also gets to challenge those students that are more gifted. Among her charges is a student that was a Syrian refugee. He is a wee bit of a challenge for her, because he asks for way more homework than any of her other students have to do. He is just that demanding. Anne loves him though. What teacher wouldn’t?

My Christmas wish? I think that I have already gotten it.

You’re a good woman.
I don’t know about that.
Of course you don’t. That’s part of your charm.
