When I was leaving Schnucks, I overheard a young mom muttering to herself and to her daughter about how the weight of her child was “killing” her. The daughter was not fat, but she was big for her young age. I suspect that the father is a big guy, but the mother was not a big person. Part of the problem was that the women was carrying her daughter in only one arm. Her other hand was full of her iPhone, which she held dangling from a rat’s nest of its charging cable and ear buds. This probably led to her appearance of unbalance that first attracted my attention. I love judging other people at the grocery store. It is so American, but it is not one of our better qualities. Let’s work on this today. The Red, White and Blue is a symbol, an ideal. Let’s try to accommodate our fellow citizen’s fallibilities. We are all after all only human.
