Anne took me out for a Father’s Day brunch this morning. We went downtown to a new to us place called Rooster. It is a crepes place and that is what we both had. We each had different variations of their savory crepes. Anne got “brie #2” with cherry chutney, arugula and fresh apple. I got “bacon #1” with blue cheese, mushrooms, arugula and caramelized onions. We also got to watch lots of fathers being feted by their families. Rooster is part of a chain, in that it is owned by a company that runs five other individual restaurants. They are all different and most seem to be also located downtown. Based upon our pleasurable experience this morning, we will definitely want to checkout some of the others too. After brunch, for dessert, we went looking for cakes.

Our cakewalk took us around downtown. We scavenger hunted up six new cakes all part of the Saint Louis 250th anniversary celebration, Cakeway-to-the-West. It threatened rain, but a pair of trusty bumbershoots kept that at bay. There was a Cardinal day-game today, so the downtown was populated with plenty of baseball fans all wearing red. It also enlivened the downtown more than on any other day in recent memory. Downtown Saint Louis is a happening place these days. We ducked into the old courthouse and were rewarded with all of the patriotic decorations that are on display. If you look closely, all of the American flags have 33 stars on them. This was the flag that was fought under to preserve the union. It is also a recreation of the decorations that were used during the courthouses’ rededication during that time period. The pictured dome had just been added. The rededication occurred on the 4th of July.
