Comings and Goings

I’ve Got You Coming and Going

We met this guy on Sunday morning. We were bicycling in Forest Park before we went to the baseball game later that day. So, it was only a short ride. We were working our way back home, but decided to take a slight detour across the board walks between Steinberg Rink and Round Lake. There is usually a lot of wildlife along the trail and this Sunday morning was no exception. We saw a Great Blue Heron and a Great White Egret. We also saw this guy there. We passed each other a couple of times. We were stopping to take pictures and he was going along at his own slow pace. Eventually, we stopped to talk to each other.

That is the grill of a ’07 Chrysler 300 on the back of his bike. The bicycle itself is of indeterminate make, at least we didn’t catch the name, but it was made in 1955. That much we remember. Someone had given it to him when he was a child. He said that this was his only form of transportation. He doesn’t own a car. He explained that he had mounted the grill on the back of his bike to give the drivers something to sit up and take notice of. When you ride a bicycle in the city you want to be noticed by the drivers. He said that he liked to pull in front of Chrysler 300 drivers at stop lights and show off his grill to them, “I’ve got one too.”
