Left a good job in the city,
Workin for the man evry night and day,
And I never lost one minute of sleepin,
Worryin bout the way things might have been.
Big wheel keep on turnin,
Proud mary keep on burnin,
Rollin, rollin, rollin on the river.
I worked on Saturday. This gave me the opportunity on Saturday night when I got home to say to Anne, Your weekend is three-quarters of the way over [she had snow days on Thursday and Friday] and mine has just begun. Hopefully, this helps to explain my channeling of Ike and Tina Turner.
Saturday night we all got together for dinner. We got the bus boy to take the following picture of us at El Maguey, a Mexican restaurant. We were there to bid farewell to Dave, he returns to school on Sunday morning. Dan was working, but he and Annie were able to meet us at this restaurant near his store.
At oh-dark-thirty Anne, Dave and I got up and drove Dave to the airport. We dropped him off at the front door, hugged and said goodbye and then left him there. I assume that he made it through TSA alright. I washed his clothes on Saturday, so I know that he had on clean underwear. I don’t think that there are any bad storms around so he ought to make his connection through Dulles and be back in Rochester around lunch time. Knock on wood.
We’ll be sorry to see him go, but I’m kind of hoping that he’ll take with him this frigid weather that we been having. It is better suited to upstate New York then to Saint Louis, in my humble opinion. This will be his last semester at Rochester. He had a heavy class load this last fall semester, but he kept his grades up. This spring his class load will be a little easier. We’ll see him next at his commencement weekend in May.
Over Christmas break, he managed to talk his folks into springing for a spring break vacation in Cancun. His spring break will coincide with MTV’s spring break special; yes you guessed it, broadcasting from Cancun. Can you say girls boys gone wild?
while you were channeling Ike and Tina I hope you weren’t actually dancing like Tina. because that would be just….. wrong.
Speaking of Tina, I went to the video/dvd rental store yesterday and did my usual lack of knowledge chosing of shows we might find entertaining. I picked two. “Shrink,” a fairly recent show and, “Taking Off.” The later had Buck Henry, whom I know Carl likes, and the description sounded OK. When I got home I looked it up. It was from 1971, and included a scene at an Ike & Tina Turner show. It was really pretty amusing. The whole plot was not the amusing part so much as several individual scenes. It also had a really early Carly Simon and Kathy Baker scenes (they were not part of the plot). I did better with this one than I often do. We will try to fit “Shrink” in sometime today.
