Garden Pollinators

Monarch Butterfly

We went to the garden today. It was a beautiful day. Probably our last cool day for a while. We have enjoyed this spate of cool weather. On Saturday, we went to the Clayton art fair, but I have already written about that. On Sunday, we worked in the backyard. Bagging leaves, weeds and downed branches.

Yesterday, a Davey representative came out to look at two trees in the backyard. One, an elm is on our side of the fence. The other, an oak is on Art’s, our neighbor’s side of the fence. There is a hanger in our tree, a relatively large branch that is still hanging high up after the tornado. Other than that hanger and all of the elm’s overhanging branches, work on our tree is relatively straightforward. Our neighbor’s tree is in danger of losing a third of its foliage. Due to a “birth defect” a huge branch is splitting off from the trunk. Art’s work needs to go forward as-soon-as-possible. But with the elm, waiting until winter is best. This would minimize the chances of spreading Dutch Elm disease.

Another issue is the Monterey house. Our realtor is now on crutches after a golf cart accident. Him showing the house on crutches is not a good look for our far from ADA compliant property. Add to this he is suffering from open house fatigue, even though he has not personally shown the house since his accident. Plus, he is lobbying for a price drop. I guess to make his job a little easier.

Still, we enjoyed a lovely morning at the garden. We saw lots of beautiful flowers and their varied pollinators. Followed by an excellent lunch there too. Afterwards though, we had to go to the dentist. Guess what, need to floss more!
