Our problems, issues, endeavors involving electricity continue to progress, if only towards further complication. Today, Megan of Cloverland Electric came by to inspect the property. She found problems with the current connection point of the power line with the cabin. Basically, ours is archaic. Not just the three separate wires, but also the current connection point’s proximity to the attic window. The power line must remain three-feet from the window. The present arrangement accomplishes this by only attaching the guide wires near the window and not the live ones. While not willing to rule out this arrangement, she has never seen its use elsewhere and proposed two alternatives. Punch a standpipe through the roof of the eaves. This is what Ag’s cabin has now. I think that George Maas installed that there. Alternatively, we would have to reinforce the roof’s trim enough to support the new wiring. Since a few years ago the red squirrel from hell was able to chew through this same board (1″×4″) elsewhere, this does not seem feasible. Megan staked the new power pole’s position and roughed out the new powerline’s path. This is all in a doghair stand of pines that will need to be cleared to allow pole’s tractor access. Cloverland will do that. Sorry, Bill. The current closest power pole will likely also be replaced. It is only 35′ tall and who knows how old and needs to grow five more feet. This will also minimally impact both Ag’s and George’s cabins during the swap out. All of this work except for the new cabin connection is all on Cloverland’s dime and should not cost us anything. Once Megan confers with her boss, she will be able to answer any outstanding questions, probably by Tuesday. Then our electrician can begin working. I have one concern, neither Megan from Cloverland nor Jeff from Roy have said that they want to replace the conduit from the meter to the breaker box, even though there is scorching on this wire. In other news, the new LED bathroom vanity light arrived today. Anne and I will install it tomorrow.
