Yesterday, Trump announced that today his new tariffs would be emplaced. That immediately triggered a Yuge stock market crash. Today, those threatened tariffs were realized and the markets continued with their death spiral. In 1929 it took Herbert Hoover six months to tank the economy. Trump looks like he will do it in one. The only saving grace with all of this market turmoil is that Musk’s Tesla stock is tanking faster than the rest of the market. 

Add to these events Trump and Musk’s dogie efforts to shred the social safety net, where they are looting Medicaid and CHIP for tax cuts for the rich, making the poorest Americans suffer the most. Musk is laying off so many federal social security workers that former government officials are predicting its collapse next month. That only leaves Medicare as next on their hit parade.

Tonight, Trump is scheduled to speak to Congress. I cannot even imagine what new horrors he will announce. I suspect that he will issue new threats. Many relitigating old battles that he had lost. I can predict that Republicans will fall all over themselves in obeisance to their cult leader. What the Democrats will do tonight? I have no idea. I hope that they make good trouble, but they will probably do nothing. Surprise me.
