Happy Hanukkah (belated)

Sweet Potato Menorah

Last night, Maren led our Hanukkah celebration. We had to improvise a menorah for it. So, we made a sweet potato menorah. There is a long sad story behind that necessity that I shall not go into here again. Anyway, Maren saved last night and hopefully the new menorah that I ordered will arrive today in time for the second night. Either way, we are good to go for tonight. Last night, with Joanie, she sang the Hanukkah blessings.

Reading up on this holiday, I learned that it celebrates a Jewish victory by the Maccabean rebels against Greek invaders. Yesterday, the NY Times had a slew of editorials within its pages that drew analogies between those ancient events and today’s politics, but I do not want to go there either. Suffice to say we had a nice ceremony and succeeded in not burning down the house. I call that a win-win for our first Hanukkah celebration.
