Breath from the Past

Clayton Archeology

A teardown of one building exposed old advertisements painted on the wall of an adjoining one. Yesterday, this sight greeted us as we walked back from the library. This must be a recent development, because we did not notice it, earlier this month, when we walked this way after having voted. Its unearthing shows how different the county seat was back then from the collection of glass and steel high-rises that dominate it now. I love the flesh-toned arrow-headed guy, but I wonder if the combination of his “skin” color and the tagline, “sealed in its purity package” are dog whistles or not? Maybe I am just being too woke.

Also yesterday, I got the car washed. I went to a new, modern carwash that has recently opened. They did a good job, but it was expensive. All of the other old carwashes around me are gone now. Their old buildings torn down. Replaced with other things. The business model for this new kind of carwash is supposed to be a growth industry, with a 10% annual growth rate.

We are planning on driving into a winter storm later this week, so maybe getting the car’s exterior cleaned was not a good investment, but what I really wanted was the interior cleaned. We are headed to Boston, but we will layover in Ohio first, at Cuyahoga National Park. It is there that we will run into winter. We should arrive there after the storm has passed, and spending an extra day there will ensure that we do not overtake it.
