Road Trip

Tunnel Krpani

I am gearing up for our next road trip now. In preparation, I have had the car serviced. I am collecting all of the bits and bobs of stuff that I will come with us. I might even get the vehicle cleaned. Although the forecasted wintery mix will not be very conducive to keeping the car clean.

On our recent Croatian holiday, we first flew there. Something about the pond. Once there we toured in vans, took city buses, walked, biked, Ubered and took ferries. With all of these varied forms of transportation, there was one day that could be called a road trip day. On that day, we took a Grey Lines tour from Split to Zagreb, with a stop off at Plitvice Lakes National Park. The tricky part of this tour was that at the park, we were going to switch vehicles. Instead of taking the bus back to Split, we would take another one that was coming from Zagreb. Anne brilliantly engineered this marvelous feat.

We first met early in the morning on the docks of Split to grab the bus to the park. Halfway there we stopped at a rest area. This rest area was like no rest area here in the US. There was a restaurant there, whose building had a sort of a fast-food vibe, but the food there was anything but fast-food. It was delicious. We went through a cafeteria line, paid and then ate outdoors on a patio. We did the vehicle transfer after the park. We met the other bus at another restaurant, and the driver moved our bags, while we ate our second lunch. The photo was from this leg of the trip. It was a pretty drive through the mountains. We arrived in Zagreb just before dusk and then proceeded to roller bag our way around downtown in search of our hotel. So many things could have gone wrong for us on this day, but none did. Everything came off like clockwork. It was perfect.
