As the final days tick down before our long-awaited bicycling trip in Croatia and I worry if our connection through Atlanta will be disrupted by hurricane Helene, we got an email from our future riding partner, Anne’s cousin Aimee. Aimee is the original instigator of this travel, and she is already in country, having planed a separate sea kayaking trip that preceded our bike tour together. Aimee’s kayak trip in the Elaphiti islands off the Dalmation coast ended earlier this week:
We made the most of the weather for kayaking, a small group, a couple from Britain and our fun responsive guide Spikey. We all so enjoyed each other’s company. Today I am the only overnight guest at an agrotourism home that produces both olive oil and wine. Kind of like having an apartment to myself. Until I meet up with you in Split, I think I am in the land of “cash only” policies. There is another ATM on this island, but not the next, so I’m juggling funds and counting cash. It will be good to be able to use the credit card again😜. I didn’t really realize until I got here and jumped into a motorboat to move from Dubrovnik that I am literally planning to island hop my way north to Split. With lodging already paid and not refundable, I just added more nights along the way. I can text and email and would love to hear when you land. I will stay in the old town near the ferry landing and should be able to catch a bus to the ballet school in the morning to spend the day with you. I still haven’t booked the night after the bike tour ends. Did you book that night yet? I might look into their airport transfers so that I could stay there too, giving us one more day to play😊😉. I am really looking forward to seeing you both soon and exploring the Dalmatian islands together. The water is so wonderful for swimming 🏊♀️, comfortable temperatures, clear and very salty. [unlike Lake Superior] Swimming every day🥰. I do recommend bringing water shoes and swim goggles as well as a quick dry towel for swimming.
