Tapioca Slime Mold

Tapioca Slime Mold

Named for its distinctive white color—it resembles the pudding—this organism was found growing beside the path to the lake. For a while I thought that it might be some spit up that Declan had left behind, but it has persisted too long for that to be true, plus Puck would have cleaned it up before she left. Interesting name, but not as colorful as its yellow cousin, dog vomit slime mold. Just another one of the interesting, if a bit peculiar species that live around here.

Having survived grandparenthood, today, it was time to get back on the bikes. Croatia is calling! We repeated the ride out to the Dancing Crane coffee shop that we did last time. We did not exactly get an early start. It was almost noon, when we finally launched. More importantly, the late sleepers were up for good and were laboring under the misperception that we had already ridden.

Out on the road, it was hot. How hot? You might ask. I am not so clueless to not realize that most off the country is either baking or broiling this weekend. So, let’s not quantify the temperature. Suffice to say that while we were kicking back with our respective cold brew or ice cream cone, a family pulled up. I was sitting with my back to them, but I heard it all. The son sounded like he was ready to puke. The dad kept chanting for him to hydrate. They had planned to continue west to the Point Iroquois Lighthouse, but all of a sudden, things changed. Dad was telling his son to go aways away from everyone else, they then left in a hurry, after getting bottles of water and Gatorade and headed back the way that they had come, not to the lighthouse. It was that hot.
