Before we sky north for the summer, we have a little detour to take first. We and our old longtime friends are all turning seventy this year. Except for Bob who is so damn competitive that he reached seventy a couple of years ahead of everyone else. To commemorate this life milestone, we are having a little get together. We did this once before, ten years ago, on the occasion of our becoming sexagenarians. Again, Bob crossed that finish line before all else. That rendezvous was held in the Finger Lake District of upstate New York. Of the six of us who were meeting to celebrate the anniversary, four lived near there in Rochester. Times change and now Bob and Noreen are living in North Carolina. They will be hosting us all at their new house that they just had built. Noreen, our hostess with the mostest has a full itinerary planned, which includes a trip to the Biltmore estate. I hope that I can keep up. I am not a young man anymore. Don’t you know? There is a lot to catch up to do, a lifetime’s worth, but we will have a week together. Afterwards, Anne and I will extend our trip to the southeast, with first an excursion to Congaree National Park. Notching another one of our nation’s treasures. Mosquito bites will be required. Our turnaround point will be on the coast at Charleston, SC. Where there will be plenty of history, heat and humanity to spare.
