For as long as we have lived in Saint Louis, the Missouri History Museum has had an exhibit on the 1904 World’s Fair that was held in town. This event is arguably the high point of Saint Louis history. Nothing else has come close to it and it has been pretty much downhill since then. After decades, the museum has finally updated this exhibit. This new one features a large-scale model of the fairgrounds that was created using 3D printing. Pictured is the fair’s central axis that features the Grand Basin and beyond it is Art Hill. Both of which are still in existence today. The photo shows the fair as viewed from its northeast corner, but if you walk around the diorama to its southwest corner, you could stand where our yard is now or maybe launch a drone from home. We live that close to the park, which was a lot larger back then. A neat feature of this diorama is that a modern-day aerial overlay can be projected onto the fairgrounds, making it easier to navigate the 100+ years since the time of the fair to now.
