J6

Three years after the fact, our country is still wrestling with the aftereffects of Trump’s insurrection. While many of his criminal underlings have been dealt justice, the mob boss-in-chief has so far evaded any consequences for his actions on that day. For him, the wheels of justice have ground agonizingly slow. This lack of forward progress has been exacerbated by Trump’s go to legal tactic of delay, delay, delay. Aided by his army of attorneys and some sympathetic judges, Trump has prolonged any march to judgement until now, where he sits on the eve of his next presidential campaign. Primaries to choose each party’s candidate begin this month, but Trump’s J6 actions have cast him off two such ballots.

Under the 14th Amendment, Colorado and Maine have banned him from running for president in their states. As ephemeral as they may be these are the only consequences that he has had to face so far. Even so, Trump has appealed these bans to the Supreme Court, where sit his six appointed consigliere. General consensus holds that in such a novel legal case his Supremes will likely find some excuse to overturn these bans, even if they have to squint their eyes tightly, click their heels three times, and declare that J6 was not an insurrection after all. This will leave the ballot box as the final and only line of defense left.
