This is a triple holiday weekend. First up, yesterday was Star Wars day, May the 4th be with you, a good day to get your geek on. Today is Cinco de Mayo, the day America celebrates a little known 19th-century Mexican battlefield victory. There is nothing like a little cultural appropriation, with a beer on the side. In honor of this day, I am making Jane’s world-famous enchilada recipe, with plenty of green enchilada sauce. There will be no skimping on sauce today!
I did say a triple holiday weekend. Tomorrow, May 6th is the 126th day of the year or the 127th in leap years. There are 239 days remaining until the end of the year and 233 until Christmas, so you could get a jump on your holiday shopping, but that hardly qualifies for a holiday unto itself. I checked Wikipedia to see what happened on this day and the best that I could come up with is that Babe Ruth hit his first home run and the Hindenburg disaster occurred, neither event rises to the level that a holiday would require. Maybe somebody famous was born on this day? Checking Wiki’s list of births only yielded an unusual number of footballers were born on this day. Maybe there are just a lot of famous footballers on Wikipedia? Likewise, nobody died on May the 6th who was worthy of holiday status. So, what could it be?
I won’t hold you in suspense any longer, tomorrow is Anne’s birthday. In honor of it, I promise to do better than just a card, but you will have to wait until tomorrow, to find out any of the surprises that might be in store. So stay tuned.
