Gloria Tamerr Petyarr’s painting, “Leaves”, was created with synthetic polymer paint on canvas. It is on display at the Seattle Art Museum (SAM). The following is the SAM synopsis of this painting. I love its texture. Enlarge it!
Every single solitary leaf counts in this maze that swirls through the air. It is a unique visual experience to see such endless repetition that I not monotonous, as the leaves align to form waves, eddies and an uncanny illusion of depth. A patient process was obviously required. The result takes viewers to a place where the artist sat for hours under mulga bushes, helping elder women prepare seeds for small cakes and learning about leaves whose medicinal properties are held in high regard.
