CIA Director David Petraeus resigned on Friday. He resigned, because he had an extra marital affair. Such behavior is generally frowned upon, particularly so in defense circles. Betraying a trust to the person that you have proclaimed most dearest, your wife, tends to undercut your promises to hold your country’s secrets sacred. I do not intend to demean Petraeus’s patriotism; I don’t think that anyone can do that. Our country owes him a great debt for his service. More than anyone, he turned around Iraq. He just made a bad personal decision.
Fidelity is not just a promise, or a vow, or even a way of life, it is a sacred commitment. I just count myself the lucky fellow, to have found a goddess worth worshipping. As I dance around this cauldron of blasphemy, with my love of her, I wonder how it just keeps getting better. I’m speaking of our marriage fools. You know who are. I’ll surely be, yes dearing, later today, after she reads this post, but I think that she’ll still appreciate my sentiment. I’m just the lucky guy that married a woman that keeps getting smarter. I don’t have to worry about making major decisions, I have a teacher in my pocket.
