Eastbound on the Discovery Bridge

Eastbound on the Discovery Bridge

Pictured above is the view that I see, as soon as I get on the highway to go home. It is the I-370 bridge, or more formally the Discovery Bridge, named for Lewis and Clark’s Corps of Discovery. It spans the Missouri River that this Corps navigated on its way to the West Coast and back. As Saint Louis bridges go, this is one of the newer ones. I commute against the flow of traffic, on 370, so this stretch of my new commute is not too bad. The next stretch on I-270, is shorter by miles, but longer in traffic. This is the hardest part. I exit 270 on to I-170 and by the time I cross I-70, I am back on my regular commute and of course, I take Exit 0. Did you get all that? Just count down 370, 270, 170, 70 to 0.

One of life’s little victories, last Thursday’s edition, I was running late that morning, toddling along in the left-hand lane. A big black caddy comes roaring by me, as it passes me on the right. After it passed me, it pulls into the left lane, in front of me. Stopping at the next light, I pass it on the right and get into the shorter line waiting there. Light turns green, I make through the light before it cycles again, the caddy doesn’t. Victory!
