We’re Having a Heat Wave

We’re having a heat wave,
A tropical heat wave,
The temperature’s rising,
It isn’t surprising,
She certainly can can-can.
Irving Berlin

We got two inches of snow on Monday. On Thursday, we set a new record high temperature. The old record of 82 °F was set in 1894. Thursday’s new record was 83 °F. Anne biked over to watch the Saint Patrick’s Day parade. Saint Louis is blessed with two Saint Patrick’s parades. There is the “official” one that is held downtown and on the weekend. Then there is the “Irish” one that is held in Dogtown and on Saint Patrick’s Day. It is this one that Anne rode to go see. Dogtown is located just south of the Park and is so named, because during the 1904 Worlds Fair, this is where all of the fair’s animals were kept. The barking dogs at night earned the name. She rode 5 miles.

Dave got good news on Thursday, Purdue accepted him. To say that he was pleased with this news is a bit of an understatement. His email blast had just this one word statement, “AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!” I guess he was excited. The forwarded message from Purdue, had lots of nice words in it, like, “You are obviously a very good fit with our lab.” All tuition fees are included and he will also receive a stipend. My big question though is this, the world has absorbed Peter Sellers’ Dr. Strangelove and Mike Myers’ Dr. Evil, but is the world really ready for another Dr. Axe? I can’t wait to find out.

  1. Congratulations to Dave on his acceptance to Purdue! He’ll be a bit closer to you two than during his undergrad, which will be nice (not that he’ll have time for visits….).

We’re still waiting to hear from Janet’s latest interviews….. I’m still waiting to hear from my latest interview…. Val is still waiting to hear what Univ. S. Carolina has to say (she’s already got an acceptance at UTEP)…..but Val is also in Cyprus for another 10 days on a field trip for one of her Geology classes, so I doubt she’s thinking too hard about the UTEP vs USC decision.
