The picture with today’s post are some flowers for Mother. Today’s header shows Ellis Island. A place that lots of mothers and fathers passed through to make us what we are today.
Anne and I took a walk today. We walked up to downtown Clayton for Mother’s Day brunch, at the Pomme Cafe. The weather was nice enough today to eat outside. Soon after we sat down, another couple sat down next to us. Immediately after sitting down the women exclaimed, “I wish someone would call and wish me a Happy Mother’s Day.” So I wished her a Happy Mother’s Day. This seemed to please her until soon after, when one of her children sent her a text, wishing her a Happy Mother’s Day. Not knowing what to do with the text, let alone how to respond to it kind of perplexed and then eventually vexed her.
After returning home, I called my Mother to wish her a Happy Mother’s Day. I asked her how she had liked her card. At first she said that she liked it, but then she thought about it and couldn’t remember seeing it. She started to launch into a complaint that I never send my cards on time, which has been know to happen, when my Father reminder her that she had left yesterday’s mail in the car. The mail was fetched and the card was opened and suitably appreciated.
Anne and I then went to REI, where we saw lots of people we know, also shopping there. Anne got a shirt and exchanged some sandals for a better color. Kennard was working there and let us know that he plans on visiting Dave this summer in Rochester. He also plans to get an apartment.
Returning home Anne called her Mother to wish her a Happy Mother’s Day. Dan called back to set up dinner plans for Monday and to wish his Mother a Happy Mother’s Day. Dave if you read this blog …
Anne and Joanie went to Knitty Couture, for some public knitting. They were accosted there not once but three times by scavenger parties looking for people knitting in public. Mean while I attacked the lawn, successfully! Then I went for a bike ride and got fifteen miles. I’ll leave you all with this parody of the Mother song that I found on the internet:

I don’t know exactly how to tell who posted first, but I am going to guess it was ME. Then again, as I was reading the post I was guessing it was Pooh writing and since my cards are almost always late I was striken with guilt that Mom really would get vexed about that. Just as I was vowing to set up a calendar so I wouldn’t always be last minute, I realized it was probably not my mother that was vexing. Whew (because I am pretty sure my Wednesday mailed card had not arrived yet). Happy Mother’s Day Pooh.
I mailed my card on Wednesday and it made it in time. It was really bad the year they lived in Carmel, not ten miles away. I always had to allow for another day or two there.

Pooh – very, very funny. Especially the hiding in the closet reference.
My favorite closet episode involved Jane & myself. I will admit Jane was a bit young and just went along.
Mom, arrives home, talking to Dad, who is in the kitchen preparing dinner, opens the closet. Jane says, “Boo!” and jumps out, closing the door behind her. Mom is, of course, indicating her basic displeasure with this old trick. Opens the closet door again. I jump out yelling, “boo!” Now this one really got Mom, and now Dad is laughing and Mom is telling him what a wretch he is for not warning her and being in on the joke. Of course he wasn’t, although I will never really know if he was paying attention to what we were doing. The closet was right next to the kitchen …
