More than ten years in the making, the Old Post Office now has a new plaza. “People really like having the open space as a relief for all the hustle and bustle,” said Jim Cloar, President of Downtown Now at the grand opening of the Old Post Office Plaza. The non-profit group Downtown Now is behind the $8 million project — paid for with private money mostly from the Danforth Foundation. And the design, which features a sculpture of the Greek mythological character Icarus, a waterfall and open space, has already garnered international attention.
Way back on April 4th, Anne and I biked downtown to see the festivities for the NCAA Women’s final four. On the way back home we stumbled upon the opening of the Old Post Office Plaza. There was a jazz band, the U City High Jazz Band and booths with food. We ate lunch there before returning home, with a tail wind at our backs.
Pictured above is the a fore mentioned statue of Icarus, with an under construction office building in the background.. Pictured below is Anne sitting on one of the benches in Old Post Office Plaza. Today’s header shows ripples in the fountain in the plaza.
Today Anne and I went biking in the Park. It was a nice evening and consequently the Park was very crowded. Anne and I both got fifteen miles and I got thirty miles for the day.
I knew when I first heard about this that I should have posted it two days ago. Today I heard an article on NPR about this. They even had a companion piece about Paul Potts. I am so pissed. I could have scooped NPR. I’ll leave you with Susan Boyle, a singer, on the show Britain’s Got Talent, performed here. She believes and convinces all that forty-seven is just one side of her. I have never seen Simon grin like a monkey before.
