Standing couple
Mexico (Jalisco), San Sebastián style,
300 BC-AD 200
Earthenware with cream and red slip paint
The male figure wears the armor-like plaited tunic and double-pointed helmet of jalisco warriors. His imposing female companion is adorned with elaborate body painting visible underneath the manganese-stained surface, a natural degradation process of the clay caused by bacteria thriving in the semi-desert environment of western Mexico.
