It’s Hot Tub Time

The Heights Pool

“It’s hot! Damn hot! Real hot! Hottest things is my shorts. I could cook things in it. A little crotch pot cooking.” Well, tell me what it feels like. “Fool, it’s hot! I told you again! Were you born on the sun? It’s damn hot!” — Robin Williams, Good Morning, Vietnam

Highs in the upper nineties and heat indexes in the high hundreds all week long. Too hot for walks, even early in the morning. To worries though, because we have access to a pool. Two pools actually, an indoor and an outdoor pool. We chose the indoor one to go swimming in, because it’s hot out. The outdoor pool’s water probably feels like hot bath water now. Indoors in air-conditioned comfort was just perfect, not too hot and not too cold. Swimming in the middle of a work day was great too, not crowded at all. No waiting for a lane to open up. A year and a half ago, The Heights finished a major refit, including a gut rehab of the pool. Unfortunately, Covid hit just before it could reopen. We are only now braving it again. Normally, you have to pay to use The Heights, but our Medicare has Silver Sneakers, which gets us in for free. We swam laps, but I later learned that there is also a track for wading in the pool. Next time, if there are no lanes immediately available, we could do wading laps, while we wait our turn. There is also a sauna, steam room and hot tub, but I think we can wait a while before we use any of them, because it’s too damn hot!
