Yesterday, we saw crocuses on our walk. That’s the third kind of flower, after Snowdrops and Witch hazel that we’ve seen blooming outside, this January. Do you think that they are signs of global warming? Something is certainly going on, something strange. As you can see in the photo, even the Zoysia hasn’t turned green yet. That’s because it is still the middle of winter. Crazy times. It’s kind of sad really that these harbingers of spring should be so looked askance at, just because they’ve appeared so early. They still look pretty. True, but they also signify a climate out of balance. Teetering on the brink of catastrophe, making their beauty also a terror, a terror of what may yet come. I must admit though that part of me longs for an early spring, even if it is brought on by climate change and even if come summer, we’ll be regretting losing the cooler weather so early, because by then it will be too darn hot. I’m guessing that spring beauties will be the next flower to seen. I’ll be keeping an eye out for them.
