Reynard the Fox

Pictured above is a statue of Reynard, an anthropomorphic red fox that adorns the corners of the Anheuser-Busch brewery in Saint Louis. Naturally, Rey identified with this character. I took the day off and Rey and I were men about town. Our day started at the Southwest diner. It is not nearly as crowded on a weekday as it is on the weekend. We stopped on the Hill and toured Hall of Fame Place, the street where Yogi Berra and Joe Garagiola grew up and Jack Buck lived. Our next stop was the botanical gardens. The polar vortex arrived in town last night and has gifted us with the most marvelous of weather. I’ve turned off the air conditioner at home and we drove around town with the car windows open. It was really pleasant at the garden and this fine weather made walking around the garden even more enjoyable than normal. Rey wanted to see the brewery, so that was our next stop. We sprang for the VIP tour, which was worth the expense. We saw some Clydesdales, the largest animals in the world. Unfortunately, the bottling line had already been stopped when we arrived, so we didn’t get to see the bottles crashing together, à la Jane. We returned to the Hill and grabbed a late lunch at Amighettis. Our last stop was the art museum. I’ll fix dinner tonight and we’ll watch the All Star game.

  1. “tell me again how they make beer?!” it’s no wonder I grew up a beer drinker with that early experience, and reliving it thru bed-time stories. last night I had a local porter at Bill’s Beer Garden.
