Happy Valentines Day …

markpooh

The above picture shows me and my bride to be.  We are at our rehearsal brunch, at Lake State, the morning of our wedding day.  Later that day we both promised to love and to honor, in sickness and in health.  Well Anne has been exercising the sickness clause of our marriage contract all week long.

Last Sunday we biked in the park and visited the zoo.  Towards the end of that ride, Anne felt chilled and never did feel warm the rest of that day. She went to work on Monday, even though she had misgivings about doing so. When she came home Monday night, she knew that she was not feeling well.  She called in sick for the next day and then later for the day after and eventually stayed home sick the rest of the week.  We’ve postponed going out for Valentine’s Day until tomorrow.  In honor of her week of illness, Anne has written the following blues song:

The Rhinopest Blues

The moment that virus walked into my life,
I knew I was in for a lot of strife.

Ba-dum-da-dah.
Cuz a virus ain’t nothing but trouble in a protein coat. *
Ba-dum-da-dah.

That mean old bug got under my skin,
And that’s when my woes were set to begin.

Ba-dum-da-dah.
Cuz a virus ain’t nothing but trouble in a protein coat.
Ba-dum-da-dah.

The rhino pest came up to my cell,
Inserted itself, like a ne’er-do-well.

Ba-dum-da-dah.
Cuz a virus ain’t nothing but trouble in a protein coat.
Ba-dum-da-dah.

A snotty nose, coughs, and an achy head,
All I wanted to do was to stay in bed.

Ba-dum-da-dah.
Cuz a virus ain’t nothing but trouble in a protein coat.
Ba-dum-da-dah.

* The line in the chorus is paraphrased from Dr. Ruth Birch, from her microbiology class at Forest Park Community College.  She did not sing it, but it has always seemed to me to be a blues line.

We have isolated an example of and captured a picture of the Rhinopest (with a nose cozy), that follows below:

In other news, I rode in the Park this morning. I got 15 miles.  The weather has turned cold, it feels like February again.  I’ve entered a photo contest.  Another website, a biking, blogging website is holding the contest.  It is called EcoVelo and the pictures can be found here.

  1. Well, Mouse wasn’t around when I was turning the heel, and after ripping it out once, I did a sample to figure out where I was going wrong. Turned out if you go through the heel instructions once, and then once more the way THEY meant it, what you end up with looks like a nose cozy. I stole the idea of the nose cozy from a Lola cartoon. –Pooh
