New UPDATE: Dave is no longer stuck in Chicago
His flight from Saint Louis was delayed and he missed his connection. He is currently on stand by for an 8 PM flight. That flight was canceled. The current plan is to fly to Buffalo, take a cab to the bus station and then take the bus to Rochester. He ought to arrive in plenty of time for class. 😉
The above signage greeted me last Monday morning. I guessed then what I would be doing this weekend. Saturday, Anne and I attacked the leaves. Today’s header shows our curbside donation rampart for the city’s annual leaf collection. It seems so soon since, Anne was making color swatches from fallen leaves, as shown below.
Friday night, Anne and I went to see the movie Australia. We both enjoyed it. It is directed by Baz Luhrmann, the director of Moulin Rouge! Most people I talk to are pretty ambivalent about that movie. I must admit that any movie that ends in an exclamation point is over the the top, but I still liked it. I count his director’s debut, Strictly Ballroom as my second all time favorite. Strictly Ballroom was way over the top too. Australia is way over the top, but for a Baz Luhrmann production, I see that as a good thing. Enjoy living large! The western musical theme throughout Australia is Over the Rainbow, from the movie The Wizard of Oz. Baz’s next project is Wicked.
This morning Anne and I took Dave out to breakfast at the Saint Louis Bread Company (aka Paneras). Dan works Sunday mornings, so he couldn’t come with us. Afterwards we took Dave to the airport, hugged him and watched him walk away.
OBTW, I got 15 miles in on Saturday and saw Mighty Phil launching across Clayton, while I was recovering.
I was so confused. I couldn’t figure out where David was going when it is the holidays and he should be staying home. Oh – 2 or 3 more weeks of school? Yeah – like we just left ours to finish. I think my brain is jet-lagged, which is pretty amazing since we were driving.
So Jay, how fast were you driving?
When Dave gets to Rochester at FOUR O’F*CK AM, if nothing else gets delayed, I’m sure he’ll be jet-lagged and brain dead, and wishing he had stayed home. But being the good student he is, he will go to his 10:00 class Monday morning. Right, David? David? zzzzz
Well, David did arrive safely, and got home about 4:00, but when Mark called at 9:30, Dave was asleep and planned on staying in bed. Can’t blame him, and we hope that someone in his class can share the notes with him. We’re glad you made it.

When your school is on the quarter system, sometimes you are finished by Thanksgiving. Or almost. Mouse went back to school yesterday and will be returning home again either Tuesday or Wednesday, whenever she gets her finals emailed in.
