Anne and I did the Bicycle Fun Club’s ride today. Yesterday, I noticed that their distinctive pink arrows that mark their bike ride routes went right by our neighborhood. So at 8:30 instead of driving to IL we just rolled the bikes out the back door and were off. We followed the arrows to where the ride began in Carondelet Park, registered (today’s ride was free) and headed out.
Shortly after we got going again after registration we stopped to help two women, one of whom had a flat. I tried changing the tire but messed up. Just then the ride’s sag wagon showed up and we left the women’s rescue to trained professionals.
We continued south on Broadway. At this point we encountered two of the four H’s of the Apocalypse, Hills and Headwinds. The four H’s of the Apocalypse as Anne has coined them are Hills, Headwinds, Heat and Humidity. Later we encountered the other two H’s, Heat and Humidity.
The ride took us to Grant’s Trail, a rails to trails bike trail. Grant’s Trail passes Grant’s Farm, a combination US historical site and Anheuser-Busch theme park. The picture of the Clydesdales was taken there. The title of this post comes from years ago when Anne and Bill visited us. Anne, Bill and I toured the brewery. There was a homeless women on the tour that made this remark.
We lunched outside at First Watch in Webster. While sitting there the two women we had stopped to help passed by. So I guess they had a good ride after all. After lunch we left the bike ride route and headed home. We got in 31 miles today.
I still remember that woman!
