LA at Night

So, where did I leave off? Ah, on Saturday night, Dan took us up to the Griffith Observatory. Parking there is a mess, so Dan had us park near a fire road and hike up through the woods and in the dark. We saw deer there. In the dark, is sort of a relative term in the LA basin, it probably one of the most light-polluted places on the planet. We had brought a flashlight, but didn’t really need it. There was plenty of star gazing going at the observatory, but we were more interested in looking down at the much brighter lights than what the heaven’s had above. Years and years ago, Anne and I had taken the train from Seattle to LA. Our high school friend Cooper who had just moved to LA met us at the train station and whisked us up to Griffith’s mount to see the view of the city. The difference then though was that LA was covered with smog, the view then was just of a glowing pink blanket. Cooper seemed more disappointed with the view than we were. I liked the fuzzy, glowing pink blanket look. After Griffith, we went back downtown and then out to dinner.
